Gower Street CEO Dimitrios Mitsinikos appeared on the latest edition of Celluloid Junkie’s CJ Cinema Summit on Thursday (Oct. 29).
Speaking to CJ’s Thomas MacCalla and J. Sperling Reich, Dimitrios presented Gower Street’s latest assessment of the 2026 box office to date, reflecting on some of the highlights of a year that saw its’ best Q1 and first half-year since 2019 across the combined Domestic and International (exc. China) markets, as well as a record Domestic summer, and a Global record August. He highlighted some of the key success stories before also demonstrating how Gower Street’s weekly DRIVERS report assesses how admissions, exchange rate, and ticket price changes each help determine regional and global box office gains and losses.
Dimitrios then revealed Gower Street’s latest end-of-year Global box office projection for 2026, which now stands at $35.7 billion – slightly ahead of our initial 2026 projection, announced in December 2025, of $35.0 billion. Finishing his presentation, Dimitrios then took a brief look ahead at some of the strong slate of titles coming up in 2027 in each quarter of the year.
Gower Street’s full 2027 Global box office projection will be announced in December.
Thomas and Sperling were then joined by Andrew Cripps, Head of Global Theatrical Distribution at The Walt Disney Company who discussed Disney’s theatrical strategy and the thinking behind its Infinity Vision initiative and how studios and exhibitors can collaborate more effectively.
