Gower Street CEO Dimitrios Mitsinikos appeared on the latest edition of Celluloid Junkie’s CJ Cinema Summit on Tuesday (Oct. 21). Speaking to CJ’s Thomas MacCalla and J. Sperling Reich, Dimitrios presented Gower Street’s latest assessment of the 2025 box office to date and where it is expected to end up before looking ahead to 2026.

Dimitrios kicked off his presentation by revealing an estimated Global box office through September 30 of $25.2 billion, before looking at where we’re headed. He showed Gower Street’s current $34.0 billion Global projection for 2025. He then looked at the regional breakdowns, including highlighting that the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) is projected to hit $9.8 billion for 2025, surpassing the Domestic market’s anticipated $9.25 billion for the first time post-pandemic. Both favourable exchange rates and the success of various major local releases have helped this to happen.

He also looked briefly at Latin America, as well as China and the Asia Pacific region (excluding China), calling the latter the “most challenging” region. He particularly noted South Korea’s weak performance meant local box office was expected to be approximately $1 billion down compared to 2019.

Dimitrios went on to take a quarterly look at 2026 and key titles, ahead of Gower Street’s official 2026 Global projection which will be announced in December 2025.

Thomas and Sperling were then joined by Andrew Cripps, Head of Global Theatrical Distribution at The Walt Disney Company who talked to upcoming Disney titles, premium formats, 2026 and more.
