Gower Street’s Director of Theatrical Insights, Rob Mitchell, was interviewed for an article in The Hollywood Reporter this week. The article, by Scott Roxborough and Alex Ritman, looked at the potential impact on box office of market-closures in Europe due to rising Covid cases and the threat of the newly identified Omicron variant.
Published Nov. 29, the article, titled ‘Omicron Fears Shake Global Film, TV Industry as Countries Tighten Restrictions‘, included latest year-to-date global box office estimates from Gower Street’s weekly subscriber State Of The Market report and discussed our latest end-of-year global estimates.
Speaking to Scott Roxborough, Rob said: “The unfortunate thing about omicron hitting now is that October was the first month where [global box office was] incredibly close to average box office returns pre-pandemic.” He suggested the key title the film industry would now be looking to was Sony/Marvel’s SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME in mid-December.
