Gower Street closed out 2021 and kicked off the new year with a host of media exposure. Our early 2022 global forecast, announced December 15, continued to pick up attention through the closing stages of 2021 and into January 2022, even getting mention during critic Bob Mondello’s pick for the top titles of 2021 on US radio station NPR. There was also a lot of end-of-year discussion revisiting our 2021 global box office projection, announced back on October 26.
A second wave of attention hit following the January 6 publication of our year-end estimate for 2021. Highlights of coverage included key placement in Nancy Tartaglione’s comprehensive look back a 2021 box office in Deadline, as well as news articles by Patrick Frater in Variety and Mona Tabbara in Screendaily.
The following week (Jan. 14), UNIC (the International Union of Cinemas, headquartered in Belgium) put out a press release highlighting the positive progress of recovery seen both in Europe and globally in 2021 and the potential of 2022. The release quoted Gower Street’s year-end 2021 estimate and our 2022 projection, including a previously unreleased 2022 projection for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region of $7.8 billion. Highlights of coverage included in industry trade publications The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.
Additionally, on January 20 Gower Street’s CEO Dimitrios Mitsinikos once again appeared on Celluloid Junkie‘s CJ Cinema Summit to discuss 2021 results and top titles, and future projections.
