Gower Street CEO Dimitrios Mitsinikos appeared on the latest edition of Celluloid Junkie’s CJ Cinema Summit on Thursday (Nov. 7). Speaking to CJ’s Thomas Maccalla and J. Sperling Reich, Dimitrios presented Gower Street’s latest assessment of the 2024 box office to date and where it is expected to end up.
Revealing an estimated Global box office through October 31 of $25.4 billion, Dimitrios broke down how the Domestic, International and Chinese markets were currently performing. With Gower Street’s overall Global Projection revised marginally down from $32.3 billion back in April to $31.0 billion six months on, he showed how a depressed Chinese market has been the driver of this drop despite International (exc. China) estimates holding steady and Domestic estimates actually rising.
Dimitrios also looked at how the major studios are tracking against each other Globally for the year and where they are expected to finish the year.
He looked ahead to the strong offering of titles coming in the final two months of the year as well as some of the impressive line-up of titles currently on the release schedule for 2025.
Thomas and Sperling were then joined by Tony Chambers, Executive Vice President & Head of Theatrical Distribution, The Walt Disney Company.
