The Spanish producers of local hit FATHER THERE IS ONLY ONE 2 have cited assistance from Gower Street in helping their decision making. Speaking to Variety, producer María Luisa Gutiérrez of Bowfinger International, said information provided by Gower Street (based on our release date optimization service FORECAST) had helped convince her and filmmaker Santiago Segura (who serves as producer, writer, director and star of the film) of the film’s box office potential.
Released by Sony on Wednesday (July 29), after being moved up from an August 7 release, the family comedy delivered what Variety called “a sensational first-day” of €489,000 ($567,000) in Spain, according to latest figures from our partners Comscore Movies. The result is 60% better than the first film’s opening day and saw the film account for a 70% market share.
“This is the best news we’ve seen since the COVID-19 crisis started,” Arturo Guillen, executive vice president and global managing director of Comscore Movies, told Variety. “It proves not only that there is appetite for watching new movies in cinemas, but also, given this is a family movie, that audiences of all ages feel safe in theaters.”
