Designed by Gower Street and fuelled by our partners at Comscore Movies, these reports follow the COVID-19 crisis from impact to theatrical recovery worldwide. They are intended to provide an understanding of what has happened, is happening, and could happen in markets around the world. They track the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on theatrical markets globally. They offer insight into growth occurring in different markets, states and regions that might offer guidance and opportunity for others.
In the past few weeks we’ve seen China become the first global market to achieve a full recovery level; the Domestic market re-opening major circuits; multiple European territories achieving new growth stages on our Blueprint To Recovery thanks to TENET’s launch; and much more.
When Gower Street set-up the original free trial for July and August we were still expecting the first major global releases (MULAN and TENET) to release in late-July. This would have meant seeing a build up of cinemas re-opening in the first month and evidence of the impact of major releases in the second. However, as we all know, that timeline changed. In order to be sure our trial subscribers are still able to track any market outcomes following TENET’s release we decided we should extend the free trial period for an extra month through to the end of September.
Subscribers already signed up will automatically continue to receive the reports throughout September. It is also possible for new subscribers to sign-up during this period.
Gower Street’s International Road To Recovery report features market-specific data on 29 international markets. Each market-view page (see China example, below) shows our custom built Growth Trackers, which show progress towards each stage of our 5-stage Blueprint To Recovery. We are also tracking 2020 box office levels in comparison to recent years; the number of cinemas reporting box office to Comscore in each market daily; and the progress of the COVID-19 virus; as well as offering market-specific commentary. The report also features our Global Box Office Tracker and global and regional trackers for cinemas open.
The Domestic Road To Recovery features the equivalent information for all 50 US states and 12 Canadian provinces. It also tracks state and regional box office across the US for 2020 in comparison to the past three years.
